"My Girl" Star Is Isabella in Astoria Troupe's Measure for Measure

Anna Chlumsky, the child star of the film "My Girl" and its sequel, has blossomed into adulthood and the grown-up role of the wronged Isabella in a new Astoria, Queens production of Shakespeare's Measure for Measure, Nov. 12-21. The Brooklyn actress read a casting notice for the Astoria Performing Arts Company (APAC) staging of Shakespeare's famed problem play and auditioned for APAC resident director John Hurley. "I've been studying Shakespeare in the city and now am getting a chance to put it all together," she said in production notes. The Equity showcase company performs in The Presbyterian Church of Astoria, across the East River from Manhattan in the neighborhood known for its good Greek restaurants and diverse community. "I had taken several years off from acting to study International Relations at the University of Chicago and assess what I really wanted to do...you know, set life's priorities and stuff," Chlumsky she said in APAC notes. "I had been in the business since I was 10 months old when I was in a magazine ad, then I performed in Annie and other shows with my mom, who is also an actress, at the Pheasant Run Dinner Theater in Chicago." At age 15, she decided to take a break from showbiz. After graduating from college, she moved to New York. The APAC Measure for Measure cast includes Timothy J. Cox, Hank Davies, Timothy Flynn, Sarah Fullen, Erin Jerazol, Cassandra Kassell, Joseph Mathers, Alex Pappas, Gus Schulenberg, Vira Slywotzky, Alok Tewari and Aaron Michael Zook. Designers are Brian Smallwood (set) and Holly M. Kirk (lighting). Tom Knutson is choreographer and Michelle O'Connor is composer.
